When a person goes on a pilgrimage it is a walking prayer. Thousands pray in Jerusalem and Sean Gunning is praying like the rest of us, talking to God honestly, and at the same time making “mistakes”. Those mistakes are laugh out loud funny because we all make them, but few of us cop to them in a public forum. He paints a detailed picture of The Holy Land and his traveling companions, and is completely honest about his own sins, judgments, and foibles. There is little piety in his story which makes it very relatable. And, he lets the reader see the holiness of the places thousands visit and want to remember.​

Cleverly written with surprising bits of comedy.

Fun and entertaining read. Perfectly balanced with narration and storytelling that really submerged me into the adventure. Cleverly placed bits of comedy caught me off guard and made me genuinely laugh out loud. Will be recommending this book to my friends and family.​

An enlightening read!

The author is incredibly open and honest about his feelings, which is refreshing. The writing itself, especially many of the descriptions of what he sees, is terrific. I especially enjoyed his encounters with every day people, and how he described those brief yet meaningful connections. This was certainly a unique and enjoyable read.​

What would Jesus do?

Really enjoyed this book. It reminds us with humor and reverence that we are only human after all.​



Sean's book gives an idea of what a Pilgrimage to Israel is like & a great way to remember it after.

​I read Sean's book six months after my trip to The Holy Land. I loved that his experiences and humor were exactly how I felt walking in Jesus's footsteps! I could place myself right in his book and remember so much more since he took much better notes than I did! Sean's writing is helping me to make a memory book for myself on these days of my trip one year ago. I reread his book before I started and loved reliving it again! Sean truly has a gift in writing and I'm sure Jesus loves his humor too! I will reread this book again and again! I'm so glad so much was still the same after 11 years and that we had headphones instead!
